There and Back Again

Little by little, one travels far.

Dear Friend

I wrote this with a friend in mind. Right now, she is going through what she thinks is hell that will, hopefully, be over soon so she can look back and laugh at the hilarity of all this. Background music today is Norah Jones’ live performance of Don’t Know Why from Alice @ 97.3, Volume Six: A Collection of Songs for the Fight Against Breast Cancer.

It’s amazing how one small event can completely turn everything else in life upside down. One mistake that didn’t seem like a mistake at that precise moment it happened could come back and make your days miserable, your mind constantly clouded with doubt and worries. It makes you question your decision-making capabilities. You are reduced to being dismayed of yourself for not having the wisdom to not let it happen.

The event changes you from this carefree, curious gal who is impatient for something adventurous to come knocking on your door to a critical and scared cat who wants nothing else but for life to return to the way it was. Well it won’t. What happened has happened and you can’t take it back. You have to survive the emotional distress, learn from the consequences and move on. It’s not a comforting feeling but there’s no other choice. You simply have to believe it is not the end of the world. That as a matter of fact it could be the beginning of something interesting.

Young lady, there are more lessons to learn out there. There are far more raging water to sail through. And unfortunately, more mistakes to owe up to. So don’t let this one moment get you down. And remember that no matter what, as long as you believe in yourself, everything will be okay and tomorrow, the sun will rise and life will go on.
