There and Back Again

Thank God for sisters who will grow old and discover the world with me
Who I can depend on and who can depend on me
For brothers who provided security
When I was young and unable to defend myself.

Thanks for the sunrises and the sunsets that starts and ends my days
For the sun that kisses my skin, the rain that showers me, the fog that hugs me
Thanks for the good food, the good wine and the company around the table
For the opportunities to travel and learn what the world beyond offers.

Thanks for the gift of friendship that is always in abundance
For old and new chums who are always by my side
Whether I’m at my highest high or the pit of darkness
And although I may not see some of them as often as I want to
They are always nearby in spirit and in mind.

Thanks for memories that take me through time
For the ability to remember faces of old and moments that have passed
Snapshots of my childhood, nostalgic scents, love songs on the radio
Times when I laughed so hard I cried
Even times that made me cry but now define who I am

Thanks for the good movies I’ve seen, the good books I’ve read
For the creativity and passion they inspired in me
Thanks for advancements in technology
For emails that link me to loved ones I can’t be with
For the twists and turns on the World Wide Web
That help me discover the world I can’t see.

Thank you for holidays and times off work
For the quiet moments when I am by myself
To be lazy, to stay in bed, to lounge around
Thanks to the evening that gives us a blanket to hide under
While we lay in bed free of worries, or pretend to be.
And to the moon that never fails to rise
To offer us light, to guide us when it gets too dark.

Thanks for the dreams I continue to dream
And the ones I’ve learned to let go
Thanks for the gift of happiness and glee
For the many reasons to smile that outnumber the reasons to frown
And the reasons to laugh so hard until our bellies ache.
