Little by little, one travels far.

Saturday and Sunday

Last Saturday, 4.5.03, I indulged myself with some chick-flick DVD finds. I don’t know why I felt the need for drama - must have been the way the planets were aligned that day. Or it could have been one those woman things that happens every once in awhile. So I grabbed The Little Princess (1995) from the shelf and Princess Diaries. Hey, I even had a theme going, wasn’t that exciting? Anyway, I have to be perfectly honest and confess that I enjoyed both movies quite immensely.

The Little Princess was visually beautiful. Every scene, every angle was memorable. The story itself was very heartwarming. Watching The Little Princess reminded me once again how exciting Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is going to be with Alfonso Cuaron directing. Side note: Y Tu Mama Tambien is another Cuaron creation that is totally worth watching. However, Y Tu Mama Tambien is apparently making a lot of the fans of the young wizard very nervous.

Princess Diaries was juvenile - it’s a Disney movie after all - but again I enjoyed it. I guess the urge to watch it was also due to the fact that earlier that morning, I picked up Meg Cabot’s Princess Diaries series from the library’s give-away stand for a bit of light reading. The book was hilarious and the characters quirky. The book of course is different from the movie but the changes were necessary I think, to make it more fun to watch? Anyway, the story is no more than a teenager’s fairy tale. You know it will never happen in real life. But you know what, we need a little fairy tale in our life once in awhile, especially during this trying times. Just don’t get caught in the daydream and forget to move on. Back to Princess Diaries, I thought Anne Hathaway made a very pretty princess and the kid who played her love interest (Robert Schwartzman) looked awfully familiar. You know why? He’s the son of Talia Shire (The Godfather). Yes, he looked just like Talia Shire and the rest of them Coppola kids.

That just about summarized my Saturday. It started late to begin with. I didn’t get out of bed until 11 AM and so by the time I finished eating brunch, showering and checking my email, it was time to whip up something in the kitchen for dinner. Where did the day go? After I prepared dinner, I didn’t feel like doing anything else at all so I did the chick-flick mini marathon described above. After that I was ready to go to bed and have dreams that I wouldn’t remember the following day. Ha, ha, ha!

Sunday was laundry day. What a drag! And worse, Alias was a rerun of a previous episode! We’ll continue to have reruns until the new episode on April 27. Thanks to Showtime’s Queer as Folk for not making Sunday a total waste. A dose of Gale Harold every Sunday is always a treat.

Daylight Savings Time is back! ARGHHH!

Happy birthday to my mother! So sorry I forgot to call. All the same, I’m sure you had a great time with the grandkids and all.

Happy 18th birthday to my niece Vanessa! Aim high, little lady. Reach for the stars!

Happy 19th birthday to my nephew Mark! Here’s wishing that all your birthday wishes come true.

Un beso!
