In Psychology, we call it the zeigarnik effect, defined as the tendency to remember uncompleted tasks rather than a completed one. The feeling of unfinished business, of not having come full circle. That is exactly what I feel about Keith Urban and his show last Friday, September 5. First of all, I have to say that he was everything I expected and more. Keith sounded good, played guitar like he was possessed and looked darn good doing it! He’s got such a dynamic presence on stage, it is hard to take your eyes off of him. And it’s not just because he’s good looking but because he’s a great performer. Oozing with talent and charm, he was a ball of fire from the moment he came on stage singing Who Wouldn’t Want to Be Me? until the end when he sang Somebody Like You. It was an enjoyable one hour and a half indeed but it was a short set. One moment he was there and it was done. In the end, I was left wanting to hear and see more. But not to worry because I heard that in December he will be performing for three nights in Las Vegas. I am so there, baby, for three nights in a row. Now if only I can score front row seats.
It doesn’t happen often that the person you are obsessing about, idolizing, fantasizing - whatever you call it - would one day stand a few feet from where you sit, doing what they do best. It isn’t often you get a chance to see in the flesh the person whose career you’ve fanatically followed, read-up and researched on the net, perform in front of you. My evening with Keith Urban is one for the books, one I will remeber for always. Until December in Vegas, he keeps playing his guitar and singing his songs in my ears…
