Pondering: Not all who wander are lost. (J.R.R. Tolkien)

A toast to Peter Jackson and the cast and crew of Lord of the Rings! The 11 wins at the Oscars last night were long delayed and very much well deserved. Peter Jackson created a phenomenon that was not only a blockbuster hit but also a true and certified classic of a movie. So what if it’s a fantasy movie? Its message was universal and fit for the times. So what if they didn’t get acting nominations? The SAG recognized them as the best ensemble because that was what made the movie good, no one actor stood out and stole the movie. Everyone meshed and blended together.

I guess this is the second-to-the-last official end to my Lord of the Rings journey. There’s the extended DVD to look forward to in December, with blooper reels (I hope!) and 45 minutes of extended scenes. Maybe one year soon the movie-gods would be good to us Tolkien and Peter Jackson fans and grant us our wish to see The Hobbit on the big screen as well…We can only pray.
