Lucky Chances

Reading: The Club Dumas
Listening: Days Go By (Keith Urban)
Pondering: Luck affects everything. Let your hook always be cast; in the stream where you least expect it there will be a fish. (Ovid)

I just finished watching yet another Keith Urban concert at the Sunset Amphitheater in Henderson, Nevada. I can go on and on about the show but I would almost begin to sound like a broken record. So suffice to say the show was great, as usual, and I had a grand kick-ass time with Keith as he jammed through the evening while the rain poured for the first time in a long time in Las Vegas.

The real purpose of this entry is to mention how utterly star-crossed I am. The phrase “lucky chance” never applies to me. I am never the person who wins something under the cap of a bottled soda or inside a candy wrapper. I never get the best seats in the house just by chance. I can’t even win at least the mega number in Super Lotto. And I never see or bump into famous people while I walk nonchalantly along a crowded hallway or street. When I read accounts of people bumping into famous people by chance, I wonder when the gods of kismet would smile at me the same way they’ve smiled at these lucky people. Then I wonder, what would I do and what stupid thing would I say if and when the gods do smile at me? The thought scared me.

This morning I had my first brush with fame - sort of. My sister and I were coming out of the hotel elevator and headed to bruch when we saw two of Keith’s band members, Scotty and Timmy. I wouldn’t have noticed them unless I bumped right into them. My sister had to pinch me to get me to notice. There were a bunch of women fussing about around the poor guys who were probably just trying to get to sound check. I was thrilled by the chance encounter but it wasn’t the same as bumping into Keith himself (no offense to the two lovely guys) so my sister and I walked on.

The gods winked at me that time, I suppose. But I’m still waiting for the real thing. Not a nod, not a half-smile. An actual smile from the gods of fate.

Woot! How lucky was that? And how long has it been since I walked through my blogroll? Shizah I can’t believe I haven’t been here since the 20th of August! I’m ashamed…

Sorry you missed out on seeing the Man himself…
