Goodbye, Lenin!

Pondering: If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other. (Mother Teresa)

After I finished watching Goodbye, Lenin! the word that came into my head was bittersweet. It was such an enjoyable watch with just enough touching moments towards the end that pulled on my heartstrings a bit. It’s a comedy movie with hints of political satire but overall I thought it was a movie about love for family and about holding on to things we value most through the changes we go through in life. The mother and son (Alex) characters were just hilarious although the most fun character has got to be Denis – the news footage director/actor. The dude cracked me up big time from the moment he was first introduced until the end when he delivers his final production. The scene where the mother ventures out of the apartment, sees all the IKEA and Coca-Cola banners and, to top it all, half of Lenin’s “body” being dragged by a helicopter was so memorable. It is definitely a scene – and a movie - to add to my list of favorites.

I wish someone who have seen it would talk to me about the ending. What’s your interpretation of it? I’d be interested to know.

And oh, the soundtrack by Yann Tiersen was just appropriate! Comtine D’un Autre Ete which was in the Amelie soundtrack was in this movie too though not in the released CD.

Never even heard of it, Lisa. Will have to be on the lookout for it. Sounds good.
