There and Back Again

Little by little, one travels far.

The Wedgewood, Keith and Easter Sunday

Listening: Sunshine (Keane)
Pondering: Do not let Sunday be taken from you. If your soul has no Sunday, it becomes an orphan. (Albert Schweitzer)

I had a hell-ish kind of week last week, each day spent facilitating and coordinating applicant interviews. Worst part, all of the interviews were offsite so I was displaced, unable to do other work during the down times. Every afternoon, when I got back to the office to pick up my sister (who carpools with me), the rest of my work would stare me in the face and remind me that they will be there waiting for me next week too.

Luckily, I got the chance to take a break and relax a little bit this weekend and as I promised myself, I didn’t think about - or bring - any work. I flew to Vancouver, British Columbia and stayed at the beautiful Wedgewood Hotel. Although the PanPacific Hotel is still my favorite my place to stay, bar none, this one is a close second. The bed was luxuriously comfortable, the shower highly functional and the customer service, excellent. At night, housekeeping would turn down the bed and deliver us fresh cookies and a bottle of water. My sister and I were upgraded to a one-bedroom suite free of charge and our room had a view of downtown Robson Street and the lovely Chapters Bookstore where I could look at the bookstore at night, empty and quiet with all the lights on and I’d imagine being trapped inside with no one else. It would probably be a happy experience.

The main reason I went away though is to see another Keith Urban concert at The Orpheum. I’m going to refrain from doing another review because I refuse to sound like a broken record with my glaring reviews of his shows. Suffice to say it was great, as usual. The poor thing was sick as a pup but did not disappoint one bit. He is always a joy to watch and hear.

Now I’m aboard Alaska Airlines, headed home and to my daily routines. It’s Easter Sunday, a Catholic holiday. I remember when I was young, Easter Sunday was a grand celebration. Where I came from, we spent Easter Sunday at church and capped the day off watching the grand procession which reenacts the meeting of the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ in heaven. We didn’t spend it hunting for eggs like they do here in America. And as I type this entry on board my flight I am reminded that I should go to church today and pay my respects to risen Jesus Christ who died on the cross to save us all from our sins. But I haven’t been to church for awhile, I don’t think I’d know what to do if I did. God is all-knowing, I believe in that, and He is in my heart always and in my thoughts. That’s all that matters to me at this point in my life.

My flight is nearing its destination, SFO. I best save this entry and pack away my things. I dread the return to work tomorrow but am thankful for this weekend, for the Wedgewood experience, for every chance of seeing Keith and for my faith in a Higher Being.

Lucky girl. Always, always continue to stay the course with working hard and putting away enough money to travel. Whatever you are doing, you are doing something right. I want so much to be able to travel and haven’t the means to do it. Don’t get so far into debt that you are suddenly stuck with no other options but paying the bills and having no fun because there is nothing extra with which to do fun things.
