Pondering: I love to shop after a bad relationship. I don’t know. I buy a new outfit and it makes me feel better. It just does. Sometimes I see a really great outfit, I’ll break up with someone on purpose. (Rita Rudner)

One of my dearest friends, also named Lisa, broke up with her boyfriend last New Year’s Eve. He will be moving out soon. My friend, though holding up real well, is obviously devastated. To “celebrate†her newfound freedom and to toast this new chapter in her life (and his departure), a group of us went to Cha-Cha-Cha in Haight and Shrader for dinner and drinks last night.
In the middle of dinner, the table next to us started singing Happy Birthday to a drunken celebrant at their table who was already turning pink with booze and embarassment. Then another table started to drunkenly sing another birthday song to yet another celebrant. My friends and I thought of what song to sing to celebrate our table. We thought about “oh, he’s a jolly good fellow!†yet another table – probably celebrating the same thing we were - had the best song for our evening:
“Hit the road Jack and don’t you come back no more, no more, no more, no more. Hit the road Jack and don’t you come back no more!”
