It’s not Friday, but it feels like it to me. Next one won’t be late.
I’m writing from my Holiday Inn room in Sacramento – state capital of California. My sister is having a reunion with some old chums from long ago and my other sister and I thought we’d tag along and make it a weekend road trip.
The drive from SF took a good three hours, non-stop. When we arrived at eight this morning, the temperature was already at the 80’s. IT IS BLISTERING HOT OUT HERE! This is torture for someone coming from a much cooler part of Northern California. How they work around here with this weather, I wonder. If I lived here, I’d be irritable and grumpy. I wouldn’t want to be me.
After breakfast, my sister went off to her reunion and my other sister and I went for a walk to Old Sacramento IN THE BLISTERING HEAT. It was well worth it because Old Sacramento is charming. It’s like stepping into an old Western movie complete with saloons and horse-drawn carriages. Every now and then I can picture young Laura Ingalls running to meet his Ma and Pa at the market. The signs look old; the walkways are still made of wood. Everything - though some are probably recreations - looks old and memorable. I wish my damn camera had batteries so I could capture its charm.
Maybe tomorrow morning on the drive back to the Bay I’ll go back and take pictures. For now, I am staying inside the comfort – and coolness – of my hotel room. Enough of the heat!
