Listening to: Dreaming with a Broken Heart (John Mayer)
Pondering: Loving is not just looking at each other, it’s looking in the same direction. (Antoine de Saint-Exupery)
Earlier today, I watched Season 6 of Sex and the City, particularly the episodes where Carrie falls for and gets her heart broken by Mr. Jack Berger. I may be a minority in this opinion but I thought Jack Berger was such a memorable character and memorable guy. And even though he was an a*s for breaking up with Carrie the way he did, I still think he’s a wonderfully developed character - flaws and all. He’s a very charming, very witty character and yet also very frail. Of course, I’m probably just saying this because I have a newfound love for Ron Livingston, the actor who played Mr. Berger, ever since I saw him play Captain Lewis Nixon - the drunken but ever so dependable intelligence officer of Easy Company - in Band of Brothers.
But let’s get back to Jack Berger before I end this entry. He really did try I think, to make it work, to get past the insecurities, to fix the broken ties. But like most relationships it just wasn’t meant to be. The one thing that made them similar and brought them together - their career - was the one thing that built a wedge between them. In the end, Jack and Carrie was just not a perfect match.
