Listening to: Shiver (Coldplay)
Pondering: Don’t part with your illusions. When they are gone you may still exist, but you have ceased to live. (Mark Twain)

In 1973:

  • Henry A. Kissinger won a Nobel Peace Prize for negotiating the cease-fire with North Vietnam.
  • America’s involvement with the Vietnam War ended.
  • The Supreme Court made a decision on Roe vs. Wade, that legalized abortion during the first trimester of pregnancy.
  • The Oakland A’s won the World Series, New York ruled the NBA, and UCLA beat Memphis for college basketball bragging rights.
  • Sacheen Littlefeather stood in for Marlon Brando who refused to receive his Best Actor Oscar for The Godfather.
  • Author Pearl S. Buck and painter Pablo Picasso passed away.
  • The Yom Kippur War began when Egypt and Syria opened a coordinated surprise attack against Israel.
  • Actor Ioan Gruffudd was born.

And yes, thirty-four years ago today, I was born.
